A couple of weeks back I posted up Rob Carey’s pencils & inks for page one of Clancy Wallencheck: Band of Butchers. Well, since that time the very talented Vicky Stonebridge has been hard at work on the colours and it is now my great pleasure to show off a little of her work. I continue to be blown away by the talent of everyone involved in this comic and I really can’t wait for you dear bunkerites to have a chance to read it. Head over the the UNSEEN SHADOWS OFFICIAL SITE for some more colours as well as details on how YOU can be involved in the upcoming Unseen Shadows Audio Drama.
Band of Butchers is out in November.
(I’m afraid that there is no Monsieur Poppaleux this week. Charles Crimpsphincter has been arrest on allegations of phone hacking and the Poppaleux archives have been seized as evidence. Oddly enough Monsieur P himself remains at large.)
I held off on posting this for a while because I wanted to give the other guys a chance to show it off, but with Page 2 already in my inbox and preliminary colours starting to roll in as well, I think it’s about time to show it off. The pencils and inks here are the work of Rob Carey and I hope that you’re as excited about them as I am.
Band of Butchers is a one shot comic, written by myself, which details the early career of mercenary, Clancy Wallencheck. For regular updates on the project keep coming back here or check out the UNSEEN SHADOWS WEBSITE.
This is the first bit of concept art from my next comic. It is obviously not drawn by me as I can’t draw for toffee, but is rather the work of Rob Carey who will, I’m delighted to say, be drawing the whole book. I was a fan of Rob’s work on Indifference Engine before the project and after seeing how well he’s nailed Clancy in what he called “a quick sketch I did in my lunch break” I couldn’t be more excited about seeing the rest. This comic is going to be something special.
You might notice that I’ve re-labelled the “Fallen Heroes” section of the menu to say “Unseen Shadows”. With the Unseen Shadows universe expanding beyond Fallen Heroes, it seemed to make sense to tweak the menu. You’ll still find all the old stuff there and I’ve added a link to the official Unseen Shadows site too.
I’ve actually had another bit of BoB concept art through in the last few hours, but it needs to go through Barry Nugent before we can think about making any of it public. Suffice it to say, it’s fantastic.
Getting back into the game I’m already playing catch up. Unseen Shadows is now well underway with pages already in for Stephanie Connisbee: Operation Solomon and Clancy Wallencheck: Band of Butchers. Scripts will be ready soon for Napoleon Stone and the Fragments of Fate. Cy finished Reverend: Wrath of God some time ago. Myself, Gat and Barry are agreed it can be done and if it is – then Wrath of God may well be our proving grounds.
We have a long way to go but we’ve got our driving caps on and the engine is revving. Check back here for updates every Thursday about progress on all Unseen Shadows and Fallen Heroes titles…. Cheers
The Reverend: Wrath of God by Cy Dethan, Steve Penfold and Gat Melvyn
Napoleon Stone and the Fragments of Fate by Pete Rogers and Roy Huteson Stewart
Stephanie Conisbee in Operation: Solomon by Richmond Clements & Conor Boyle
Clancy Wallencheck: Band of Butchers by Dan Thompson, Robert Carey and Vicky Stonebridge
I’ve been shunning the glorious sunshine all day in favour of working on the script for the upcoming Fallen Heroes spin off “Clancy Wallencheck: Band Of Butchers.” I’ve had a fair few people trying to tease information out of me on what the plot will entail so I thought I’d be an obliging fellow and give you a few hints. Here are some links to a few of the things I’ve been researching today, most of which will feature in the book in some fashion
Special Forces (United States Army)
Heckler & Koch MP5
This is a list of weapons served individually by the United States armed forces
United States Army
Pakistani Nuclear Test
One of those may be a lie…there are no grenades. 😉
Can Blacklight take down The Bieb before it's too late?
That’s all you’re getting for today. Have fun learning about stuff that goes bang.
Wow. We’ve had a whole tonne of stuff going on since Kapow so I thought the best thing to do was just chuck it all together and give you a bit of an update on what we’re up to right now.
Steve and I signing copies of the book at Kapow
First off, massive thanks go to everybody who bought a copy of Moon at Kapow and to those that have ordered copies of the book via the website. We were expecting the level of interest in the book to pick up a bit after some of the reviews came out but it has utterly floored us just how many people seem to want to read about our big Mooney hero. To give you an idea of where we’re at, we had predicted that our initial print run would cover us for about six months and it’s almost completely sold out in two. Yikes!
On that note, if you are thinking about picking up a copy of Moon #1 but have yet to do so then you should know that we are now almost completely sold out of “First Edition” copies. The second print run of the book will have a slightly different cover, so if collecting is your thing then you’re going to want to get your order in as soon as you can. Once the First Editions are gone, they’re gone for good. Which reminds me…I should really reserve one of them for myself.
If you want this sexy cover then you'd best be swift.
We’ve had a couple more reviews come in this week as well. I’m going to post up a full page of links to them once the last few are in but in the mean time you may wish to know that The Void thinks Moon has “a great cast of characters” and that the Small Press Big Mouth Podcast generally loves the book (I’d suggest enjoying the whole podcast, but if you just want the Moon review then skip to around the 10min mark). The Small Press Big Mouth one especially blew me away as it’s one of the most positive reviews we’ve had so far. They seem to genuinely get what we’re trying to do here and the fact that they likened the book to The Tick makes me happier than you can possibly imagine.
Ok, well I have a tonne of writing to do if I’m going to get Band of Butchers done in time, so I must return to the laptop. Take care of yourselves Bunkerites, thanks for all the support so far and please keep spreading the good word.
A lot going on at the Bunker right now. A lot of activity regarding the new Moon 2 issue, Fallen Heroes 2, Clancy Wallencheck: Band of Butchers and two other titles which we are not discussing for now. In particular is the focus on Moon 1 : second printing. We are currently in contact with UKomics to see what the best advice is – and taking into account advice and discussions with indy comic book luminaries Barry Nugent, Martin Conaghan and Harry Markos. Myself and Dan will meet in a secret location somewhere in London and decide on the next move – with the help of an Excel Spreadsheet and some tankards of ale.
