Work continues apace on the central title of the Unseen Shadows Universe, currently building to a massive crescendo thanks to the tireless promotion of Barry Nugent of Geek Syndicate who created the book itself. With the Tales of the Fallen, Moon and Fallen Heroes 2 coming out in the next two months its all hands to the pumps at Bunker towers but we’re confident all will be complete.
A lot of you already know that I have a new comic coming out in November and the publishers went public with the cover today so I’m finally allowed to let you have a wee look. It’s the tale of a former Marine coming to terms with the killer he’s become. It’s also about lots of people getting shot. The cover and interior art is by Rob “Indifference Engine” Cary, colours are by Vicky Stonebridge and Letters come from Paul McLaren.
It’s being released as part of the Unseen Shadows: Tales of the Fallen collection and is shaping up to be really really good. I really can’t wait to see this one in print.
Oh, and it’s also not quite as kid friendly as Moon…sorry.
Most of the reviews are in for Moon #1 now and so I thought it was about time that we collected them all together so you can see what the critics have been saying about the book.
Geek Syndicate – 5/5 – “Iconic”
Major Spoilers – “Very impressive”
The Void – “A great cast of characters”
Small Press Big Mouth Podcast – “Very slick, very professional, very witty…you’ll love it.”
Good Comic Books – “Like if HBO made Blackadder…awesome fun!”
Hi-Ex! Blog – “Complex and exciting…Buy it!”
Comic Buzz – “Huge fun and was a pleasure to read. I’ll be back for Issue Two and I’m willing to bet that everyone who reads this will be too!”
We had faith that people would like the book when we put it out there but the sheer level of enthusiasm that people have shown for it has been frankly staggering. We are hard at work on issue 2 right now and we’re still aiming to have in in your hands by the end of summer. If you’ve not bought a copy of the book yet please order one online or come and see us at Bristol, MCM or any of the other cons we’ll be visiting this year. The faster we sell issue 1, the faster we can put issue 2 out. Bunkerites, we need YOU! (I may even stop calling you Bunkerites if you help us sell a tonne of them 😉 )
Please, please, please take a bit of time to hop on twitter/facebook/whatever and give us a quick shout out. We really appreciate the help you guys give to this rapidly accelerating project.
Geek Syndicate owner and original Fallen Heroes scribe and all round nice guy Barry Nugent had arranged a panel for us to get on to at the Cardiff International Comic Expo hosted by (top lads) Gavin and Dan from The Sidekick with Barry Nugent and myself …. My first panel I wasn’t sure what to expect but it all flowed pretty painless. Heroically filmed handheld by Stu Tipple of Fatboy Comics at Barry’s request (cheers dude). Sorry for the wobble and the sound but some insight into the thinking and process behind Fallen Heroes is available here if you want to have a look….
The book itself, surviving Insomnia and the team itself (Barry, Martin Conaghan, myself and Gat) the challenges in bringing it to the page and the decisions behind picking me as artist.
Visualising the book, the introductions of the crew and a possible trip to South Africa, Barry’s response to the comic strip, alterations and the only minor disagreement on Issue 1, distribution, Oxicomics vs Comixology, definition of success and a difficult question for me….
Spin-offs, Cy Dethan, TV, the extra 10 copies, the original offer, faithfulness of the TV adaptation, Self publishing, the Grand Plan, why small press doesn’t have to be small press. Round up and questions. Weirdly, occasionally it sounds like a hamster is drinking out of a water bottle somewhere close by.
