Everybody loves a bit of Gotye’s ‘Somebody I Used to Know’ but here’s an alternative that George Lucas might not want to pay attention to. This great spoof uses a blend of both films and music video and speaks for a good ol’ section of the adult population that remember the first time a Star Destroyer appeared chasing a Frontier Runner in 1977.
By now you’ll almost certainly have heard of Australian artist, Gotye, and his number one single “Somebody That I Used To Know.” Somebody that you may not be so aware of just yet is the lady behind the sultry female vocals on that great track. Well, her name is Kimbra, she’s from New Zealand and this was her first single, way back in 2010.
Settle Down may not be a new track by a long stretch, but since it has yet to receive a UK release it’ll probably still be pretty fresh to a lot of people. The combination of lovely vocals, strangely mesmerising dance moves and creepy children make this a perfect pop video for a sublime little track. It also makes me really want to write a character called Nebraska Jones.
If you spend any time on the internet then you’re probably already familiar with the wonderful video in which Walk Off The Earth cover Gotye and Kimbra’s “Somebody That I used to know” using just one guitar. If you’re not then here it is, it’s awesome and you’ll need to be familiar with it in order to die laughing at what’s coming next:
Ok, so that was great. Now, as is the way all virals, it was only a matter of time until somebody produced a parody and fortunately for us in this case the lampoon has come from musical comedy heavyweights, The Key of Awesome. I have honestly not laughed so hard in a long time (though it should be said that I do really like the original song so I may be a little biased).
Anyway, watch, enjoy and check out some more of Key of Awesome’s work.
